Manuel Mauricio has over 30 years experience as an arts professional.
Following his degree from SMU in Studio Arts with an emphasis in sculpture, Manuel began his long career at the Dallas Museum of Art. As head preparator, Manuel installed, coordinated and supervised the installation of over 90 temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection, working with curators, registrars, conservators and visiting artists. He also worked on the planning and implementation of the move of The Dallas Museum of Art from Fair Park to its current location in downtown Dallas. He also served as courier for the DMA for domestic and international loans, most notably traveling the USA with Visions: James Surls 1974-1984 and traveling to Madrid and TelAviv to supervise the installation of A Century of Sculpture: The Patsy and Raymond Nasher Collection.
Manuel left the DMA in 1992 to begin an independent consultancy, where he provided installation, transportation, shipping, storage arrangements and collections management services for private collectors and corporations, where, among other projects, he managed the relocation and installation of the collection of artworks of Stanley & Linda Marcus. As a consultant, he also conducted a major survey of the City of Dallas’ public art collection, which led to a full-time position as Collections Manager, Public Art Program, for the City of Dallas, Office of Cultural Affairs.
In 2005, Manuel took a position as Art Program Manager at DFW International Airport, overseeing the $6 million art collection in the new Terminal D. There, he administered maintenance for the collection including the artworks on loan from the Nasher Sculpture Center and maintained collection records, database, and photo archives for the entire collection. Upon completing a catalog and audio tour of the artworks at Terminal D, Manuel left to pursue an independent consultancy.
He founded Provenance Associates in 2007 and incorporated it in 2008. Provenance Associates LLC provides art collection management services including registration, installation, exhibition and maintenance/conservation of artworks for private collectors and corporations. Most recent major corporate projects include relocation and installation of artworks for Comerica Bank to its new corporate headquarters, and the registration, removal and reinstallation of historic furnishings at the Hall of State in Fair Park.
